Setanta Ceatharlach was established on the 11th February 2011 with the support of Leinster Council and Carlow County Board to enhance the development of hurling in Carlow Town. The club commenced its first season that year and has progressed and continues to develop year on year.

From its inception the objective of the club was to focus on games development through the recruitment of players, the development of skills through training and participation in matches. Parallel to this was an ethos to create a family friendly environment and to organise activities to create and build a sense of club, one which members could identify with and be proud of.
