Darragh McCarthy is one of the brightest young stars in Tipperary hurling, a sharp-shooting forward whose rise has been nothing short of meteoric. A native of Toomevara, McCarthy first made headlines as captain of St Joseph’s CBS Nenagh, leading them to their historic first Harty Cup title in 2024. That same year, he was the top scorer in the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship, amassing a staggering 5-97 across 11 games for Toomevara.
His inter-county journey has been equally impressive. McCarthy won an All-Ireland Minor title in 2022 and back-to-back Munster Under-20 titles in 2024 and 2025, before helping Tipp claim the All-Ireland U20 crown in 2025. His senior debut came in January 2025, and he immediately made an impact, scoring 1-6 against Galway in the National League opener.
In the 2025 All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final against Laois, McCarthy top-scored with 0-9, including six frees and a '65, underlining his growing importance to the senior setup. Off the field, he’s known for his humility and maturity, often staying long after matches to sign autographs and connect with fans.
With his scoring touch, leadership, and grounded attitude, Darragh McCarthy is not just a player for the future—he’s already shaping the present of Tipperary hurling. A name destined for greatness.
