John McGrath is a gifted dual star whose scoring prowess and big-game temperament have made him a household name in Tipperary hurling. Born in 1994, he hails from the famed Loughmore–Castleiney club, where he has excelled in both hurling and football, helping the club to multiple county titles in both codes. His ability to influence games from corner-forward or deeper roles has made him one of the most feared attackers in the country.
McGrath burst onto the inter-county scene in 2015 and quickly became a key figure in Tipperary’s forward line. He played a starring role in Tipp’s All-Ireland triumphs in 2016 and 2019, famously scoring 1-3 in the 2016 final against Kilkenny. That same year, he earned an All-Star award for his outstanding performances throughout the Championship.
A former Fitzgibbon Cup winner with the University of Limerick, McGrath combines sharp instincts with clinical finishing and unselfish play. His 1-13 haul in the 2024 Tipperary senior hurling final for Loughmore–Castleiney was a masterclass in scoring and leadership.
Whether in club or county colours, John McGrath brings intelligence, flair, and a relentless hunger for success. He remains a central figure in Tipperary’s ambitions and a player who consistently delivers when it matters most.
