Michael Breen is one of Tipperary hurling’s most enduring and versatile figures, admired for his athleticism, intelligence, and unwavering commitment to the Premier County. Born in Ballina in 1994, Breen has been a stalwart of the Tipperary senior panel since 2014, lining out primarily at midfield but equally capable in defense or attack. His adaptability and scoring prowess have made him a key figure in Tipp’s modern era, contributing significantly to their All-Ireland triumphs in 2016 and 2019.
A product of Castletroy College and later University College Cork, Breen’s hurling pedigree was evident early on. He won Munster and All-Ireland medals at minor level in 2012 and continued to shine through the under-21 ranks. At club level with Ballina, he has been a leader and role model, helping secure county intermediate titles and inspiring younger generations.
Off the field, Breen is a secondary school teacher, bringing the same focus and leadership to the classroom as he does on the pitch. His humility, work ethic, and quiet determination have earned him respect across the GAA community. Whether bursting forward from midfield or anchoring the defense, Michael Breen embodies the spirit of Tipperary hurling—resilient, proud, and always striving for greatness. A true ambassador of the game.
